A changelog is a knowledge base of its own type: a dated feed of release notes and product updates, published separately from your help center content. You create it the same way as any other knowledge base and pick Changelog as the type.
Changelog
Product changelog
A dated, searchable feed of release notes that readers can browse and link to, published separately from your help center.
Create it
- Go to Knowledge Bases in the admin sidebar.
- Click Create Knowledge Base.
- Enter a Name and Slug.
- Under Type, choose Changelog.
- Set Public on if readers should see it without signing in, then create it.
Creating a changelog requires a plan that includes the changelog feature. If yours does not, you see an upgrade prompt instead. See Create a knowledge base & choose its type for the shared creation form.
The type is fixed once the knowledge base exists. You cannot turn a help center into a changelog later, or the other way round.
How a changelog differs from a help center
| Help center | Changelog | |
|---|---|---|
| Content | Articles in categories | Entries with a version and release date, listed newest first |
| Public page | Home page with hero and categories | A single dated feed |
| AI chat bot | Can have an agent | Not available; there are no articles for it to answer from |
| Can be the company default knowledge base | Yes | No |
What to do next
Switch to the new knowledge base with the knowledge base switcher. Its Changelog page lists your entries and has three buttons: New Entry, View Page and Settings.
- Post your first update: Write & publish changelog entries
- Make it look like part of your product: Brand your changelog & serve it on its own domain
- Link to it from your help center: add a Knowledge base link on the help center's Appearance page; see Customize your knowledge base's appearance
