Your knowledge bases are live on helpbento.com URLs from the start. Adding a custom domain such as help.yourcompany.com lets you serve them from your own domain instead. Domains are managed for the whole company under Settings > Domains, and any public knowledge base can then be assigned to one.
Add a domain
- Go to Settings > Domains.
- Type the domain in the Add a domain field, for example
docs.example.com. - Click Add domain.
The domain appears as a row with an Awaiting DNS badge and a Finish setup prompt. Click the row to open its setup panel.
Add the DNS records and verify
The panel lists the DNS records the domain needs, each with a copy button on the value.
- Add every listed record at your domain registrar or DNS provider.
- Back in HelpBento, click Check status.
- Watch the badge. It moves from Awaiting DNS to Verifying while the records propagate and the SSL certificate is issued, then to Live once the domain is connected.
This can take a few minutes after the records are in place. If verification fails, the badge changes to Action needed and the panel shows the error so you can correct the record and check again. You can assign knowledge bases while you wait.
Once everything checks out, the panel confirms it: Live at yourdomain.com, serving N knowledge bases.
Assign knowledge bases to the domain
The same panel has an Assign knowledge bases checklist of your company's public knowledge bases.
- Tick the knowledge bases you want served on this domain.
- If you tick more than one, choose which one lives at the domain root under Serve at the domain root. The others serve at
/their-slug. - Click Save changes.
For how root and path-based serving works, the one-domain-per-knowledge-base rule, and assigning from a knowledge base's own settings, see Serve knowledge bases on a domain (root KB + path-based KBs).
Remove a domain
- Go to Settings > Domains and click the domain's row.
- Click Remove next to the domain name at the top of the panel.
Removing a domain unassigns every knowledge base from it and takes the domain out of your company's pool. Those knowledge bases keep serving on their helpbento.com URLs.
