Deleting a category removes the category itself, permanently, but nothing inside it is deleted. Its articles and subcategories are moved somewhere sensible before the category goes.
Where its articles go
| The category you delete | Its articles |
|---|---|
| Has a parent category | Move to that parent |
| Is top level (no parent) | Become uncategorized |
Uncategorized articles are listed under Uncategorized articles at the top of the Arrange page until you give them a new category.
Where its subcategories go
Any subcategories nested under the deleted category are promoted to top level. They are not deleted, and they are not moved under a different parent.
Delete a category
- Go to Categories.
- Open the actions menu at the end of the category's row.
- Choose Delete.
- Read the confirmation. It spells out the impact before you commit: how many subcategories will become top-level categories, and how many articles will move to the parent category or become uncategorized.
- Click Delete.
This cannot be undone. The category is gone for good, even though its contents are preserved elsewhere.
