Rather than starting from a blank knowledge base, the import wizard brings existing content over from a platform you already use. It lives at Settings > Migrations, and every run ends with a summary of what was created so you can review before your readers see anything.
Availability
Importing requires a plan that includes content import. It is off on the Free plan, so if yours does not include it you see an upgrade prompt in place of the provider cards.
Supported sources
| Source | What you connect with | Keeps published or draft status |
|---|---|---|
| Help Scout | Docs API key | Yes |
| Intercom Articles | Access token from an internal app | Yes |

The wizard steps
- Connect: enter the credential for your source and click Validate Connection.
- Select: tick the collections, categories, or pages you want to import from.
- Preview: choose individual articles. Published articles are ticked by default; search and a status filter help with large lists. Articles you imported before are greyed out.
- Categories: map each source category to an existing HelpBento category or create a new one, by hand or with Auto-suggest with AI. See Map your source categories during import.
- Import: confirm the Preserve article status toggle where the source supports it, then click Start Import. Progress is shown article by article.
- Complete: a summary of articles imported, how many are published and how many are drafts, categories created, images uploaded, and any failures. From here you can View Articles or Import More.
During the import HelpBento creates any new categories, fetches each article, converts it to the editor format, and re-hosts its images in HelpBento.
Published or draft?
Help Scout, Intercom, and Zendesk all carry a real publish state, so for those the Import step offers Preserve article status: published articles stay published and unpublished ones become drafts. Switch it off to bring everything in as drafts for a review pass first. Notion has no publish state, so Notion imports always land as drafts.
