Bring your Intercom Help Center into HelpBento with the import wizard. Connecting takes a single access token from an internal Intercom app; the wizard then walks through collections, categories, and publish status, and you review everything before anything is written.
Before you start
- Your plan must include content import. If it does not, Settings > Migrations shows an upgrade prompt instead of the provider cards.
- The access token is used only during the import session and is never stored.
Get an Intercom access token
- In Intercom, open Settings > Integrations > Developer Hub.
- Click New app, give it a name such as "HelpBento import", and pick your workspace. An internal app is fine; no OAuth setup is needed.
- On the app's Authentication page, copy the Access token.
Connect
- In HelpBento, go to Settings > Migrations and click Start Import on the Intercom card.
- Paste the token into Intercom access token and click Validate Connection. A success message tells you how many collections were found.
- Continue to Select Collections and tick the top-level collections you want to import from.
- In Preview, choose articles. Published articles are ticked by default; drafts are listed but unticked, so tick any you want.
- In Categories, map each Intercom collection to a HelpBento category or create a new one. See Map your source categories during import.
- Click Start Import.
If validation fails with Invalid Intercom access token, the token was rejected by Intercom. Copy it again from the app's Authentication page.
What maps to what
| In Intercom | In HelpBento |
|---|---|
| Top-level collection | What you pick in the Select Collections step |
| Any collection, top-level or nested | A category, named by its path, for example "Getting Started / Billing" |
| Article | An article. The HTML body is converted to the HelpBento editor format and images are re-hosted in HelpBento |
| Article state (published or draft) | The article's status, when Preserve article status is on |
A few details of how discovery works:
- Each article is attributed to its direct parent collection only. An article shared into several collections is imported once, under its primary one.
- Articles that are not inside any collection are not part of the Help Center tree, so they do not appear in the preview.
- Intercom does not report article counts per collection, so the selection summary shows collection counts only.
Published or draft
The Import step has a Preserve article status toggle, on by default. With it on, published Intercom articles are published in HelpBento and unpublished ones land as drafts. Turn it off to import everything as drafts for review first.
Keeping it in sync
After the first import, the Intercom card gains a Sync updates button. It compares Intercom's last-updated timestamps against your previous import and refreshes changed articles in place. See Run an import again.
